Embark Studios is keeping the door open for the introduction of vehicles in Arc Raiders, though the developer confirms that no features are currently in active development. During the Game Developers Conference 2026, production director Caio Braga revealed that while the team has toyed with the concept for years, any addition must align with the game’s long-term vision and lore.
The Long Road to Vehicles
The idea of adding vehicles—such as a noisy quad bike for rapid traversal—is a frequent topic in shooter discussions. When asked about the possibility for Arc Raiders, Braga noted that the concept is “not off the table,” but clarified that the studio isn’t rushing to implement it.
“We have prototypes for vehicles from seven years ago that haven’t been touched in a while,” Braga explained. He emphasized that because Embark is committed to supporting Arc Raiders for the long haul—targeting a decade of updates—the studio remains flexible regarding potential additions, provided they fit the established world.
A Shift in Shooter Design
The extraction shooter genre has historically remained a “boots-on-the-ground” experience, largely shunning the vehicular combat popularized by titles like Halo or the Battlefield series. While major franchises still utilize vehicles, many contemporary shooters, including Bungie’s Marathon, have opted to leave them out of their core gameplay loops.
If implemented, vehicles could serve as a major differentiator for Arc Raiders in a crowded market. However, with the studio focused on maintaining the game’s specific balance and atmosphere, any such feature would need to prove its worth before making the leap from seven-year-old prototypes to the live game environment.
