Nintendo is preparing to take the Mario franchise to new heights, as recent domain registrations by NBCUniversal strongly suggest that the upcoming 2026 sequel will be titled “Super Mario Galaxy.”

Domain Leaks Hint at Cosmic Adventure
Following reports from industry insider Wario64, it appears that NBCUniversal secured the domain name supermariogalaxy.movie earlier this month. Additional registrations, including supermariogalaxy-lefilm.com and supermariogalaxy-lapelicula.com, were filed on September 10. These URLs currently redirect to the official Universal homepage, following the exact naming conventions utilized during the marketing rollout for the original The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Old Spice Leak Gains Credibility
These domain registrations provide significant weight to a previous leak involving promotional Old Spice deodorant. Months ago, images of product labels featuring the title “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” began circulating online. While initial reactions questioned the authenticity of the renders—which prominently featured Yoshi and Luigi—the recent digital footprint left by Universal suggests that the merchandise was indeed an early reveal.
“Can’t believe that the Mario movie sequence was leaked by an Old Spice merch, of all things,” noted the YouTube account NintendoFan on X. “What a crazy timeline! I loved Yoshi’s look on that little can. Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see it in 4K.”
What to Expect from the Sequel
The first film concluded with Bowser’s defeat and a post-credits scene teasing the arrival of Yoshi in the sewers of Brooklyn. While the narrative direction remained a mystery, the “Galaxy” subtitle signals a major shift toward interplanetary travel. In the 2007 Wii classic Super Mario Galaxy, the plumber traverses various planets to assist Rosalina and restore her ship, the Comet Observatory. Given that the character Lumalee already appeared in the first installment, a space-faring plot aligns with the established cinematic universe.
Beyond the Galaxy
However, fans should expect Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment to put their own spin on the source material rather than a direct adaptation. Interestingly, the leaked Old Spice promotional art also depicted a Tostarenan from Super Mario Odyssey standing behind Luigi, hinting that the film may blend elements from multiple iconic titles rather than sticking to a single game’s lore.
The highly anticipated sequel is currently scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
