To mark the digital release of Ryan Coogler’s horror hit Sinners, Fandango has unveiled an exclusive deleted scene that deepens the emotional stakes of the film’s tragic juke joint massacre. The footage, released to coincide with the film’s home media debut, offers a poignant look at the characters before the vampiric chaos unfolds. (Warning: Spoilers for Sinners follow.)
A Deeper Look at the Juke Joint

In the movie, twin brothers Smoke and Stack (Michael B. Jordan) return to the Mississippi Delta with ambitions of creating a thriving juke joint. While the theatrical cut briefly touches upon the construction of this sanctuary, the deleted scene provides an uninterrupted, expanded sequence of the team coming together to build their dream. It captures the charm and camaraderie of the characters as they work under the guidance of Delta Slim (Delroy Lindo).
Bittersweet Moments Before the Bloodshed
The scene is undeniably bittersweet, showing the genuine joy of the characters as they fry catfish and celebrate their progress in a hostile, segregated South. Knowing that this very structure becomes the site of a brutal, undead massacre makes the footage feel heavy with irony. This extra time spent with the ensemble cast highlights their humanity, leaving viewers wishing for more time in this meticulously crafted setting—and fueling a desire for a sequel that seems increasingly unlikely.
Why Ryan Coogler Is Avoiding a Sequel
Despite Sinners achieving massive cultural and box office success, director Ryan Coogler has effectively shut down hopes for a follow-up. In a recent interview with Ebony Magazine, Coogler clarified that he intentionally designed Sinners as a complete, standalone story. After spending years navigating the demands of the Creed and Black Panther franchises, he sought to distance himself from the sequel-heavy nature of modern Hollywood.
“I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that,” Coogler explained. “I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique.”
For now, fans looking to revisit the world of Sinners will have to rely on the digital release or hold out a faint hope that Coogler might eventually lend his talents to other supernatural projects, such as the long-gestating Blade reboot.
