Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider series has officially revealed its first on-set look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, showcasing the actress fully equipped for high-stakes adventure in a drizzling woodland environment.
A Tactical Transformation for the Iconic Heroine
The newly surfaced set photos reveal a grounded, practical aesthetic for the legendary treasure hunter. Turner is dressed in a tactical ensemble featuring grey cargo pants, black mid-calf boots, and a brown ribbed long-sleeve shirt layered under a black vest. The look is completed with signature details including fingerless leather gloves, a forearm brace, a belt rigged with grenades, and the classic green canvas knapsack with brown leather straps. Most notably, Lara’s iconic dual pistols are holstered at her thighs, and her hair is styled in the character’s trademark braid.
Stunt Work and Rigorous Physical Preparation
Beyond the costume, the footage captures Turner performing her own stunts, including a sequence involving parachuting across a lake. This physical intensity is the result of an exhaustive training program that the actress began nearly a year ago. During an appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show in January, Turner detailed the grueling schedule behind her transformation.
“We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot,” Turner explained. She noted that while the process uncovered a chronic back issue, the dedication was necessary to build the required physique for the role, especially given her lack of prior workout experience. “It has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape,” she added.
Production Details and Franchise Legacy
The production, currently filming on location in Surrey, England, is a massive undertaking spearheaded by Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics. The project is under the creative guidance of Fleabag creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is helming the adaptation. The series aims to honor a franchise that has achieved monumental success, with the Tomb Raider brand having moved over 100 million units worldwide throughout its 30-year history.
