Mega Crit’s highly anticipated sequel, Slay the Spire 2, has officially sold 3 million copies within its first week of Early Access, solidifying its status as a massive commercial success. The developer confirmed that players have already completed over 25 million runs, a figure the studio notes is likely an undercount by several million.
A Resounding Success for Mega Crit
Following the massive legacy of its predecessor, Slay the Spire 2 faced the difficult task of living up to one of the most celebrated deckbuilding roguelikes in gaming history. The title immediately claimed the #1 spot on Steam’s top-seller list upon release, outpacing major franchises like Resident Evil and Marathon.
Mega Crit co-founder Casey Yano expressed both exhaustion and excitement regarding the launch. “The response to Early Access has been incredible,” Yano stated. “Even though I threw out my back from overworking, I’m feeling high in spirits. Thank you to the team for dealing with my constant shenanigans and working extra during this busy rush!”
What’s Next for the Spire
Beyond the impressive sales figures, the studio has provided a roadmap for future updates. Players can look forward to the integration of Steam Workshop support, a complete overhaul of the game’s scoring system, and the addition of a phobia-friendly accessibility mode.
Mega Crit clarified that there is no fixed timeline for these updates, noting that “new content and balance changes will come to the main branch whenever we feel they’re ready.”
Expanding the Universe

The developer also touched upon the broader Slay the Spire ecosystem. The expansion for the physical board game, titled Downfall, is confirmed for release on March 24. For fans looking to show their support, the studio has also introduced a new line of official merchandise, ensuring that the momentum surrounding the franchise continues well beyond the digital launch.
