Hank Hill and the residents of Arlen, Texas, are officially returning to television as Hulu prepares to launch the 14th season of King of the Hill this August, featuring a refreshed intro that highlights over a decade of dramatic life changes.
A Long-Awaited Return to Arlen
The iconic animated sitcom, created by Mike Judge, originally aired on Fox from 1997 to 2009, spanning 13 seasons and more than 250 episodes. Discussions regarding a potential revival began as early as 2017, long before Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Now, more than 15 years after the series concluded its original run, the Hill family is set to return with 10 brand-new episodes.
Decoding the New Opening Sequence
On May 30, Hulu debuted the updated intro sequence for the upcoming season. While the production maintains the familiar musical theme and the classic time-lapse visual format of the original series, the imagery suggests that the passage of time has significantly altered the landscape of Arlen.
What the New Footage Reveals
Sharp-eyed fans have already begun dissecting the sequence, which is packed with subtle narrative clues. Notable observations include hints that Bill may have contracted COVID-19, Dale Gribble making a bid for mayor, and the revelation that other tenants occupied the Hill residence during the family’s extended absence.
Hulu has confirmed that the 14th season of King of the Hill will officially premiere on the platform on August 4.
