The icon of macabre is back: nearly three years after the debut of Netflix’s smash hit Wednesday, the first six minutes of season two reveal a Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) who has evolved from a troubled psychic into a calculated, unstoppable force.
Mastering the Shadows
The hiatus has clearly been productive for the Addams scion. Wednesday spent her summer break deep-diving into the ancestral spellbook of Goody Addams, the same grimoire she famously used to resurrect Thing. This rigorous study has yielded tangible results, as Wednesday now displays a level of precision and control over her psychic visions that was entirely absent during her chaotic freshman year at Nevermore Academy.
The Hunt for the Kansas City Scalper
Trading typical vacation activities for true crime investigation, Wednesday has channeled her inner detective to hunt down a serial killer known as “The Kansas City Scalper.” Her new proficiency is on full display when she tracks the killer by touching a piece of evidence—a feat that leads her directly into the trap of the villain, played by Haley Joel Osment.
The scene in Osment’s basement, filled with chilling porcelain dolls representing his victims, serves as a masterclass in Wednesday’s evolution. When she appears to be overpowered by the killer, it is merely a ruse. Utilizing her refined psychic abilities, she manipulates the environment to trick the Scalper, creating the illusion that one of his tribute dolls has come to life. The distraction works perfectly, allowing Thing to emerge from the doll’s head and neutralize the threat.
From Unpredictable Visions to Strategic Power
This display of competence marks a stark contrast to the first season. Previously, Wednesday’s psychic visions were involuntary, triggered by touch or emotional spikes, and frequently left her incapacitated or physically drained. Whether it was the gruesome visions of Rowan Laslow or the involuntary trips into the history of the Nightshade Library, she was a passenger to her own gift. Now, she wields these powers as a tactical weapon, positioning her as a formidable crime-fighting force.
Netflix TUDUM Reveals and Lady Gaga’s Debut
This high-stakes preview was unveiled during Netflix’s TUDUM event, which also confirmed one of the most anticipated casting additions: Lady Gaga will join the series as Rosaline Rotwood. While fans are eager to see the pop icon’s performance, they will have to wait for the second half of the season; the new episodes are split into two parts, with Part 1 premiering on August 6 and Part 2 following on September 3.
