Developer Mechanistry has officially confirmed that the hit beaver-themed city builder, Timberborn, will exit early access and reach its full 1.0 launch on March 5.
From Early Access to Full Release
After a successful journey in early access since 2021, the game is finally crossing the finish line. Mechanistry revealed the launch date alongside a new cinematic trailer, playfully dubbed a “lore trailer” by the team. While the narrative—following beavers crossing a desert to establish a new civilization—is straightforward, the video features high-quality animation and gravelly narration from British actor Shaun Dooley.
Since its initial debut, Timberborn has evolved significantly. The current build already boasts an impressive array of features, including robotic beavers, advanced water management systems, hazardous polluted water, and complex transportation networks like ziplines and water tubes. With 16 playable maps and robust Steam Workshop support for mods, the game has already cemented itself as a staple in the city-building genre.

What to Expect in Version 1.0
The 1.0 update focuses on refining the experience with a collection of new features rather than a single massive expansion. Mechanistry’s roadmap includes the introduction of natural phenomena such as aquifers and geothermal fields, alongside new environmental hazards, additional maps, functional spiral staircases, and aesthetic city banners. Players eager to get a head start can already test these additions by accessing the game’s experimental branch.
The full release of Timberborn arrives in less than a month, marking another significant milestone for the city-building genre. With other upcoming titles promising management gameplay on the backs of cosmic whales or inside giant trains, 2025 is shaping up to be a standout year for fans of the genre.
