Stuck on the elusive Foundation elevator in Blue Prince? Here is how to lower it and access the secret mechanism hidden within the mansion.

The Foundation is one of the most critical draftable rooms in Blue Prince. Once placed, this permanent room stays in the same map location, featuring diggable dirt floors and three exits. However, its most prominent feature—a single-person elevator—starts high above your head, completely out of reach.
Finding the Elevator Mechanism
To use the elevator, you must first lower it to ground level. The controls are not located inside the Foundation room itself; you will need to manipulate the mansion’s layout from the outside to trigger the descent.
The key lies in the room placement. You need to draft a room that shares a border with the wall where the elevator is mounted. Specifically, that adjacent room must feature a doorway on the wall it shares with the Foundation’s back wall. This configuration allows you to access the rear of the elevator shaft, where you will find a large crank mechanism.
Strategic Room Placement
If you are struggling to visualize the layout, keep an eye out for the Master Bedroom. This room contains a note on a desk that explicitly details how the elevator system operates. If you want to solve the puzzle yourself, consider how your drafted rooms connect. A doorway on a shared wall is the primary indicator that you have successfully aligned your rooms to access the crank.

For example, if the elevator is on the north wall of the Foundation, drafting a room (like the Conference Room) with a southern doorway against that shared wall will reveal the mechanism.

Activating the Elevator
Once you have placed a room with the necessary doorway, enter that room, locate the crank, and turn it. This action will lower the elevator inside the Foundation to the ground floor. Simply return to the Foundation, step into the elevator, and flip the internal switch to proceed.

After you have successfully lowered the elevator, it will remain at ground level for all future runs, meaning you only need to complete this puzzle once to permanently unlock this traversal shortcut in your mansion layouts.
