Indie developer Viridian Matters has officially unveiled Panline, a high-octane freerunning game heavily inspired by the cult-classic Mirror’s Edge, slated for a release later this year.
A Familiar Dystopian Aesthetic
Mirror’s Edge remains a hallmark of gaming for its unique style and the unfortunate lack of sequels from EA. Filling that void, Panline arrives with a clear homage to the iconic “gleaming dystopia” of spotless white skyscrapers. While the color palette swaps the signature Mirror’s Edge red for vibrant hues of blue, orange, and algae green, the DNA of the project is unmistakable.
The game leans heavily into late-2000s nostalgia. Most notably, players will utilize an in-game gadget that bears a striking resemblance to Sony’s classic PlayStation Portable (PSP). The movement mechanics—including wall-running, speed-building, and crashing through obstacles—are designed to capture the same fluid platforming intensity that made DICE’s original title so memorable.
Open-World Mechanics and High-Stakes Gameplay
Beyond simple course-clearing, Panline introduces a non-linear, open-city structure. Players navigate this urban environment by taking on dynamic jobs that become available as they explore. The progression system is tied to upgrading both the player’s movement abilities and their handheld device.
However, the game introduces a significant risk-reward mechanic: lethal falls result in the loss of progress for the current job. As the store page explains, “what you carry is what you risk, and progress only counts once you make it back to base.”

Proven Track Record
While footage of Panline is currently limited, expectations are high. The developer’s previous title on Steam, another parkour-focused game, currently holds a “Very Positive” rating. With a scheduled release window sometime this year, Panline stands as a compelling prospect for fans of kinetic, first-person movement games looking for a fresh challenge.
