Predator: Killer of Killers Trailer Hits with Time-Travel

2 years ago (Last updated: 2 weeks ago)

20th Century Studios and Disney dropped the first trailer for Predator: Killer of Killers on April 8, confirming an animated anthology film directed by Prey filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg that hits streaming services this June.

An Anthology of Temporal Carnage

Moving away from the singular survivor narrative of previous entries, Predator: Killer of Killers explores three distinct tales of extraterrestrial hunts across history. The film promises a high-octane spectacle, featuring Predators stalking prey in vastly different eras, including the high-stakes battlefields of World War II and the intense, tradition-steeped duels of feudal Japan.

Trachtenberg’s Expanding Predator Universe

Following the massive critical and commercial success of 2022’s Prey—which pitted a Predator against Native Americans in the 1700s—Dan Trachtenberg has cemented his role as the architect of the franchise’s future. Reports from October 2024 confirmed that Trachtenberg is currently spearheading both this animated project and a separate live-action installment.

Mixing Mediums and Influences

Trachtenberg noted that the concept for Killer of Killers was born from the creative freedom found in Prey, specifically the potential for placing the iconic hunter in diverse historical settings. Beyond the period-piece aesthetic, the director aimed to push the boundaries of the medium while maintaining the franchise’s signature brutality.

“I love in Predator movies, [the] hard-R, crazy carnage,” Trachtenberg stated, as reported by GamesRadar. “Wouldn’t it be cool to see that in a different medium? So we made this movie, Killer of Killers, at the exact same time—stupidly, but awesomely—and it is an anthology movie.”

Visual Inspiration from Arcane

The aesthetic of the project draws heavy inspiration from the acclaimed Netflix series Arcane. Trachtenberg confirmed that the production team collaborated with artists who worked on the hit show, aiming to bring a distinct, high-quality visual identity to the Predator universe.

Fans can catch Predator: Killer of Killers when it premieres on Hulu and Disney+ on June 6.
