Through a series of strategic weapon buffs and the reintroduction of classic hardware, Epic Games has successfully transformed the Fortnite Chapter 7 loot pool into the most balanced, lethal, and versatile arsenal the battle royale has seen in years.
The Evolution of the Arsenal
Just a month ago, the landscape of Chapter 7 felt stagnant. The Deadeye AR reigned supreme, rendering nearly every other rifle obsolete, while SMGs remained largely irrelevant and sniper rifles felt relegated to niche loadouts. However, recent adjustments have shifted the meta significantly. The arrival of the MK-seven red-dot rifle has finally challenged the Deadeye’s dominance, creating a much-needed competitive tension in long-range engagements.
SMGs Finally Find Their Groove
The most impactful shift has been the revitalization of the SMG class. By retiring the lackluster Dual Micro SMGs and focusing on the Holo and Flex SMGs, Epic has turned these weapons into powerhouses. The Holo SMG, in particular, has become a high-damage, full-auto beast at short-to-medium ranges. With a 200 damage-per-second output, it effectively punishes opponents who fail to maintain situational awareness.

The Flex SMG has seen similar improvements. It now serves as a highly adaptable tool: rapid hip-fire for shredding builds and a more precise, high-damage aimed fire for range. With an expanded magazine capacity, it sustains a brutal damage output that keeps the pressure on enemies for longer durations.
Synergy and Tactical Mobility
The current meta rewards agility, bolstered by items like the zero-gravity Flowberry, the champagne-spray Fizz, and the Mist Grenade. These additions pair perfectly with the buffed SMGs, allowing for aggressive, high-mobility playstyles. Players can now effectively pair a sniper rifle with an SMG, leaving ample room in the loadout for utility items like the wingsuit and shockwave grenades. This flexibility allows for dynamic combat, where missing a sniper shot isn’t a death sentence—it’s just a cue to reposition.

Closing the Gap on S-Tier Weapons
Minor adjustments to the tactical pistol and tactical assault rifle have successfully narrowed the performance gap between top-tier picks and the rest of the loot pool. While the Deadeye and heavy shotguns remain strong, they no longer feel like the only viable choices. The current environment offers a dozen solid weapon options, making the game feel more diverse and skill-based than in previous iterations.
The Lock-On Contradiction
Despite the overall success, the Lock-On assault rifle remains a point of contention. While it serves as an accessibility tool for players struggling with aim, its automatic locking mechanism feels inherently unfair in high-level play. It remains an outlier in an otherwise well-designed loot pool, especially when compared to more skill-expressive tools like the Arc Lightning gun.

Ultimately, one problematic weapon does not overshadow the progress made. Fortnite Chapter 7 has achieved a rare state of balance that keeps the gameplay fresh, rewarding both tactical positioning and raw mechanical skill.
