Nintendo and Illumination have officially dropped the debut trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, confirming the big-screen arrival of fan-favorite characters Bowser Jr. and Rosalina following a brief teaser earlier this year.

The Plot: Bowser Jr. Takes the Lead
Picking up after the events of the first film, the sequel finds Bowser in a diminished state—literally. Currently held prisoner by Mario and his allies after being shrunk by a Mini Mushroom, the once-formidable villain is now a tiny, pathetic figure. With his father sidelined, Bowser Jr. steps into the primary antagonist role, launching a mission to rescue his father from the clutches of the Mushroom Kingdom.
Star-Studded Voice Cast
The sequel brings major star power to the franchise. Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) joins the cast as the celestial protector Rosalina, while Benny Safdie (co-director of Uncut Gems) provides the voice for the ambitious Bowser Jr. During a recent Direct presentation, fans got a glimpse of these performances: Larson was heard narrating bedtime stories about Mario and Peach to a group of Lumas, while Safdie delivered a menacing monologue as the younger Bowser.
Returning Faces and Release Date
Chris Pratt and the rest of the original voice cast are set to reprise their roles for this cinematic outing. Jack Black also made a special appearance during the Direct to introduce Safdie, and while his signature Bowser voice remains, it is notably pitched up to reflect his shrunken, defeated state. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on April 3.
