James Gunn has officially confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will feature a brand-new musical dance sequence when the series returns to HBO Max on August 21. The updated intro will debut with the new season, replacing the iconic original with a fresh song, new choreography, and an expanded cast of characters.

Why the Peacemaker Intro Had to Change
The decision to overhaul the show’s signature opening was born out of necessity. According to Gunn, the high casualty rate among the cast in the first season made the original sequence obsolete. “We killed everyone in the season, so we kind of had to film a new intro,” Gunn explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Beyond the plot-driven need for a refresh, the expanded roster—including new additions like Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury and Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux, alongside the return of Michael Rooker and a more prominent role for Judomaster—demanded a new group performance.
A New Song and Eagly’s Big Moment
While the original intro’s theme, Wig Wam’s “Do You Wanna Taste It?”, became a viral sensation, Gunn opted for a new track that better aligns with the thematic direction of the upcoming season. Despite the difficulty of moving on from such a catchy anthem, Gunn noted that the new selection is more representative of the story arc ahead.
Fans of the show’s breakout star, Eagly, have plenty to look forward to. Gunn revealed that the eagle will officially attempt to join the dance sequence this time around. While the bird may not be a natural-born dancer, he will participate in the finale of the sequence, complete with his own unique pose.
Managing Expectations for Viral Success
Gunn remains grounded regarding whether the new sequence will replicate the massive cultural impact of the original. He acknowledged that the viral success of the first intro was an unpredictable phenomenon, stating, “You just can’t replicate that.” However, the showrunner is confident that the substance of the new season—packed with significant twists and revelations about the DC universe—will provide the same level of excitement for viewers, even if it doesn’t aim specifically for TikTok domination.
Peacemaker makes its long-awaited return to HBO Max on August 21.
