The voices behind the fictional K-pop sensation Huntr/x—Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami—made a surprise appearance at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards in Elmont, New York, to present the award for Best Album, with Nuna using the red carpet to drop a clever Easter egg for fans of the Netflix animated musical KPop Demon Hunters.
A Fashionable Nod to Mira
In the opening scenes of KPop Demon Hunters, viewers are introduced to the group’s lore through interviews with die-hard fans. Among the anecdotes shared is a story about Mira, the group’s lead dancer and resident “black sheep,” who famously wore a black sleeping bag to the Met Gala—a moment that solidified her status as a global fashion icon. While Audrey Nuna didn’t opt for a literal sleeping bag at the VMAs, she wore an oversized, voluminous puffy jacket that served as a direct tribute to her character’s eccentric style.
Huntr/x’s Impact Beyond the Screen
Although the group was present to hand out trophies rather than perform, their real-world impact is undeniable. The hit track “Golden” was nominated for “Song of the Summer.” While the award ultimately went to Tate McRae’s “Just Keep Watching,” the success of “Golden” speaks for itself, having dominated music charts in over 20 countries since the film’s release.
Future Performances
Despite the high chart performance of the movie’s soundtrack, fans are still waiting for a proper live stage performance from the trio. For the time being, the only way to catch the stars singing their signature tracks remains through viral clips of them performing at karaoke bars. With awards season still in full swing, audiences remain hopeful for a high-energy live debut of the KPop Demon Hunters catalog.
