The Simpsons: Hit & Run Revival? Producer Says Never Say Never

Homer Simpson screams, running through vehicular carnage as part of the box art for The Simpsons: Hit & Run.

Matt Selman, executive producer of The Simpsons, has officially fueled speculation regarding a potential revival of the cult-classic title The Simpsons: Hit & Run, stating that fans should “never say never” to a return of the beloved game.

A Surprising Legacy

The Simpsons occupies a rare space in pop culture, boasting an incredible 37 seasons. However, its transition into the world of gaming has been hit-or-miss—with the notable exception of Hit & Run. The title remains a standout action-adventure game that successfully captured the humor and chaos of Springfield, earning a dedicated cult following that persists decades later.

Reflecting on the game’s unexpected longevity, Selman told People Magazine, “Hit & Run is so interesting… I’m a thousand years old, and when I was in my mid to late 20s, I helped write Hit & Run. I had no idea it would become a cult game, a cult success. Of all the games, the thousands of Simpsons games… that one…”

Is a Remaster or Revival on the Horizon?

For fans clamoring for a remaster, a port to modern consoles, or a return to digital storefronts, Selman offered a glimmer of hope. While he emphasized that “nothing is set in stone,” he confirmed that the team behind the scenes is fully aware of the public demand for the title.

While this is far from a formal announcement of a remake, it is the most significant update regarding the franchise’s gaming future in recent years, signaling that the possibility is at least being acknowledged by those in power.

The Producer’s Personal Pick

Despite the massive fan adoration for Hit & Run, Selman admitted in the same interview that it isn’t his personal favorite. He revealed a preference for the 2007 Simpsons game released shortly after the film, praising it for having “sort of a movie level of storytelling.”

For those who already own a copy and are looking to breathe new life into the experience, the modding community continues to push boundaries, including impressive projects like total conversion mods that reimagine the game within the Futurama universe.
